Tuesday Morning Quarterback: A Champion Crowned

Smffl_champ
Congratulations, Craig Daitch!

Craig is the champion in the inaugural season of the Social Media Fantasy Football League (SMFFL).

As such, he gains possession of the league champion hardware from FantasyTrophies.com (pictured at left).

In the championship game, Craig's Beasties defeated Jeremiah's Little Birds, 96 – 83.

Dave Knox's Hard Knox Life takes third place with a 101 – 92 victory over Jackie Huba's Stillers.

Dan Cordella's Munoz Mustache Club secures fifth place with a 90-79 win over Aaron Strout's Mighty Maurauders.

Adam Cohen and Mosi Tatupu's Mullet take the final bracket and seventh place, 72-71 over Laura "Pistachio" Fitton's Purple Pistachios.

In the SMFFL, winning isn't everything – it's the only thing.  Besides the trophy.  For eleven of us, there's always next year…

Tuesday Morning Quarterback: Let the Playoffs Begin

SmfflThe regular season of the Social Media Fantasy Football League (#SMFFL) season is complete.

Every season begins with hope.  For some teams, like the Mustangs and Favre Beans, bitter reality sets in early.  For others, like the Mighty Maurauders and Munoz Mustache Club, you come so far…just to fall short.

The top four teams advance to the playoffs and have a shot at winning the first ever SMFFL season and the hardware from FantasyTrophies.com (pictured at left).

The final regular season standings:

  1. Little Birds (Jeremiah Owyang), 10-4.
  2. Hard Knox Life (Dave Knox), 9-5.
  3. The Beasties (Craig Daitch), 9-5.
  4. Stillers (Jackie Huba), 8-5-1.
  5. Mighty Maurauders (Aaron Strout), 8-6.
  6. Munoz Mustache Club (Dan Cordella), 8-6.
  7. Mosi Tatupu's Mullet (Adam Cohen), 7-6-1.
  8. Purple Pistachios (Laura "Pistachio" Fitton), 7-6-1.
  9. The Viral Gardeners (Mack Collier), 6-7-1.
  10. The Team With No Name (me), 6-8.
  11. Mustangs (Scott Monty), 3-11.

The two-round playoffs start this week, with Little Birds vs. Stillers and Hard Knox Life vs. The Beasties.  There is a consolation bracket, with Mighty Maurauders vs. Purple Pistachios and Munoz Mustache Club vs. Mosi Tatupu's Mullet, aka the hair battle we've all been waiting for.

Next update at the end of the playoffs, when a champion will be crowned. Your
trash talk is appreciated, as always.

Tuesday Morning Quarterback: The Final Quarter

Smffl
Week Eleven of the Social Media Fantasy Football League (#SMFFL) season is complete, bringing us to the last quarter of the season.

Munoz Mustache Club and Mzinga Maurauders have climbed steadily out of the bottom of the league barrel and are positioned to play for the championship.  The top four teams get to play for it and we have three weeks left to go.

As football fans know, winning the regular season doesn't mean too much unless you can close the deal in the playoffs.  Even if you go undefeated.

Our current standings:

  1. Little Birds (Jeremiah Owyang), 9-2.
  2. Hard Knox Life (Dave Knox), 8-3.
  3. The Beasties (Craig Daitch), 7-4.
  4. Mzinga Maurauders (Aaron Strout), 6-5.
  5. Munoz Mustache Club (Dan Cordella), 6-5.
  6. Stillers (Jackie Huba), 5-5-1.
  7. Mosi Tatupu's Mullet (Adam Cohen), 5-5-1.
  8. Purple Pistachios (Laura "Pistachio" Fitton), 5-5-1.
  9. The Team With No Name (me), 5-6.
  10. The Viral Gardeners (Mack Collier), 4-6-1.
  11. Mustangs (Scott Monty), 3-8.
  12. Favre Beans (Joseph Jaffe), 1-10.

Just like NFL teams, some SMFFL teams are in must-win mode at this point.  The only team eliminated from contention is Jaffe's Favre Beans.  Mathematically, everyone else still has a shot…

Next update at the end of the regular season. Your
trash talk is appreciated, as always.

Tuesday Morning Quarterback: Halfway Home

Week Seven of the Social Media Fantasy Football League (#SMFFL) season is complete, bringing us to the midpoint of the season.

Highlights since our last update:

  • Week Five:  Munoz Mustache Club hung a 110 – 97 victory on the previously unbeaten LittleBirds.
  • Week Six:  The Mustangs eked out a 72 – 70 victory over Purple Pistachios for their first win of the season.
  • Week Seven:  Mzinga Maurauders manager Aaron Strout announces that he's moving his franchise from Boston to Austin.

Halfway home, P&G's Dave Knox has the leading team.  I am on the verge of making an executive decision requiring him to change his team name, because it keeps making me think of a little orphan in a red dress.

The current standings:

  1. Hard Knox Life (Dave Knox), 6-1.
  2. Little Birds (Jeremiah Owyang), 5-2.
  3. The Team With No Name (me), 5-2.
  4. Stillers (Jackie Huba), 4-3.
  5. The Beasties (Craig Daitch), 4-3.
  6. The Viral Gardeners (Mack Collier), 3-3-1.
  7. Purple Pistachios (Laura "Pistachio" Fitton), 3-3-1.
  8. Mzinga Maurauders (Aaron Strout), 3-4.
  9. Mosi Tatupu's Mullet (Adam Cohen), 3-4.
  10. Munoz Mustache Club (Dan Cordella), 3-4.
  11. Favre Beans (Joseph Jaffe), 1-6.
  12. Mustangs (Scott Monty), 1-6.

This marks the 50% completed mark of the real season, week 4 of 14
in the SMFFL.  Next update at the 75% mark after Week 11.  Your
trash talk is appreciated, as always.

Week Four of the Social Media Fantasy Football League, or SMFFL, season is complete.

Thanks to Dave at FantasyTrophies.com,the stakes have been raised considerably for the winner.  The league champion will take possession of a hand-made custom trophy, customized just for us.  You need to read about how these things are made.

It looks as though Jeremiah cannot be stopped, at 4-0 just like the real world Buffalo Bills.  Who have never won a Super Bowl and in fact lost four straight from 1991 – 1994, setting a record in futility.

The current standings:

  1. Little Birds (Jeremiah Owyang), 4-0.  Defeated #7, 89-83.
  2. The Viral Gardeners (Mack Collier), 3-0-1. Defeated #12, 105-46.
  3. Hard Knox Life (Dave Knox), 3-1. Defeated #6, 90-80.

  6. Stillers (Jackie Huba), 2-2. Could be worse. Could be better.
  7. Mosi Tatupu’s Mullet (Adam Cohen), 2-2. 6 points away from beating Mr. Perfect.
  8. The Beasties (Craig Daitch), 2-2. Sets a record for lowest points scored to date.
  9. Mzinga Maurauders (Aaron Strout), 1-3. Defeated #10, 76-61.
  10. Munoz Mustache Club (Dan Cordella), 1-3. Giambi’s ‘stache didn’t help much either.
  11. Favre Beans (Joseph Jaffe), 0-4. Things can only get better. Maybe.
  12. Mustangs (Scott Monty), 0-4. At least you have a partner in perfection.

This marks the 25% completed mark of the real season, week 4 of 14 in the SMFFL.  Next update at the halfway mark after Week 7.  Your trash talk is appreciated, as always.

Tuesday Morning Quarterback

Earlier this year, Pete Blackshaw posted about Twitter by Machiavelli and how different people use Twitter.

[note: this marks the end of any business value to this post.]

Focusing on Pete’s "RingCiters," I reached out to a group of people who I’ve [mostly] seen tweeting about sports and have formed a fantasy [American] football league.  Our draft will take place next Sunday and through the season I’ll be posting about our progress.  You, naturally, are welcome to post advice, feedback, and general trash talk for any of the managers here, on their blogs, or on Twitter.

Here’s the league (team/manager):

Obviously my team needs a better name.  Help?
